Auditioning on Britain’s Got Talent was something that Jodi Bird always dreamed of. When she got word that her dream was going to be a reality, she knew exactly what song she wanted to sing. After months of practicing, Jodi was ready to give the judges the performance of a lifetime. However, things took a strange turn when Simon stopped her audition only a few seconds in…
Picking “Don’t Rain on My Parade” was a no-brainer for Jodi due to the songs powerful history. Hollywood A-lister Barbra Streisand first performed the song in the hit musical, Funny Girl. The song’s lyrics are empowering to those who want to make it big and that’s exactly what Jodi wanted to do with her stint on Britain’s Got Talent. So when Jodi stepped onto the stage and “Don’t Rain on My Parade” started to play over the loudspeakers, she was ready for an audition that would knock the socks off of the judges. She had no idea that Simon would cut her song short just moments after beginning.
Even though she only sang for a few seconds, the other judges and many of the audience members jeered Simon for his choice and urged Jodi to keep singing. Listening to their pleas, Jodi began her song all over again – and this time it was even more powerful! The moment Jodi wrapped up her audition, the audience (and several of the judges) rose to their feet. Thankfully, she was passed through to the next round by all four of the judges!
